Dilip Ray told the media, "No leader of Odisha has been received by people like I was received here. I am really emotional over such a warm welcome. The people have handed me victory even without contesting elections.”

Things took a new twist on Tuesday when 11 former corporators of the Amaresh camp met BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate & sitting Bhubaneswar MP, Aparajita Sarangi and held discussions with her.

On Berhampur Assembly seat, BJP is yet to taste victory. The party was earlier in fourth position and now climbed to number 2 spot.

With just 8 days left for nomination filing for the first phase of elections in which 28 Assembly Constituencies will go to polls, the BJD, the BJP and the Congress have not yet announced candidates in four, nine and five seats respectively. 

The Rourkela Assembly seat is likely to witness a high-octane fight as BJD has nominated Dilip Ray’s arch-rival, Sarada Nayak.

The BJP alleged that the government has sanctioned over Rs 500 crore of the tribal welfare development department to an NGO despite the model code of conduct being in force. The party leaders met the CEO and furnished pictorial evidence of the ASHAs and Anganwadi workers engaged in partisan activities. 

Protesting against the party nominating Smrutirekha Pahi for Dharmasala Assembly seat, supporters of BJP leader Himanshu Sekhar Sahu demanded the ticket for him.

With Nuapada Zilla Adivasi Sangha giving its consent to former MLA Ghasiram Majhi to join the fray as an independent candidate, the electoral battle in Nuapada Assembly constituency is going to be a four-cornered one.

Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Kerala together account for 204 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha but the BJP couldn't cross 50 seats in all these states put together either in 2014 or 2019 when it won 29 and 47 constituencies respectively.
