Mumbai on High Alert
Mumbai Police went on high alert after a threat message surfaced on the traffic police WhatsApp helpline, claiming that 14 terrorists entered the city with 400 kilograms of RDX. The message further alleged that explosives were planted in 34 vehicles across the city.
The threat comes just ahead of Anant Chaturthi, the grand finale of the Ganesh festival, when lakhs of devotees throng Mumbai’s streets for idol immersions.
According to officials, the sender mentioned the name of an organisation called ‘Lashkar-e-Jihadi’, warning of possible blasts. The Crime Branch, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and other agencies have been roped in to investigate the origin and credibility of the message.
A case has been registered at Worli Police Station under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with sub-sections 2, 3, and 4.
Preliminary investigation suggests the message may be a hoax, similar to earlier threat messages received on the same helpline. However, officials stressed that maximum precautions are being taken given the massive crowds expected on immersion day. Security checks, combing operations, and surveillance have been stepped up across sensitive areas.
An official urged citizens not to panic or spread rumours: “Security has been beefed up at key locations. Mumbaikars must remain alert and report any suspicious activity.”
With millions expected on the streets, the Mumbai Police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and secure farewell to Lord Ganesha.
