On January 9, 1999, Anjana Mishra was brutally gang-raped by three men at Barang on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The case had triggered a political upheaval in Odisha leading to the resignation of the then Chief Minister late J.B Pattnaik. Anjana Mishra fought for 22 long years against the system and held her head high. She fought for justice and never relented. Armed with an iron will, Anjana fought alone without anyone’s support. Her perseverance finally paid off. On February 22, the key accused in the case, Biban Biswal was arrested in operation Silent Viper.
