Erode: Hundreds of fully grown trees in over 100 acres have been completely burnt in a fire at Institute of Road and Transport Technology Engineering College compound at Chitode, but a science lab in the area was not damaged.

Fire service personnel rushed to the spot on receipt of information on Sunday and doused the flames.

In another fire incident at Gobichettipalayam last night, a silkworm rearing shed was completely gutted, destroying all the cocoons.

The total damage is estimated at Rs 10 lakh, police said.
