Bhubaneswar: After witnessing a dry spell for over a couple of weeks, rain and thunderstorm activity is likely to return to Odisha from day after. As per the latest forecast of India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts of Odisha will experience a wet spell with thunderstorm activity for a period of three days from February 23.

“Under the influence of a passage of a western disturbance and low level southeasterly/ easterly wind flow and strong moisture convergence, a wet spell with thunderstorm activity is likely to occur in several districts of Odisha from February 23 to 26,” IMD said in a release.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sundrgarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on February 23, Met sources said.

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower activity will be witnessed at several places in north interior Odisha and a few places of north coastal Odisha including Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh and in isolated parts in rest of the State between February 24 and 25.

Yellow warning has been issued for districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Angul and Dhenkanal (February 24 to February 25) as there is a chance of thunderstorm with lightning in these districts.

As per the forecast, coastal Odisha, north interior Odisha and south interior Odisha will probably see rain and thunderstorm activity between February 25 and 26.

Yellow warning (to be updated)- The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Cuttack, Dhenkanal Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Puri (from February 25 to February 26).

Thunderstorm with lightning warning has also been issued for the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Kandhamal.
