Two hardcore criminals nabbed after police encounter

Berhampur: Two dreaded criminals were arrested following a police encounter in Chamakhandi of Ganjam district late last night.

As per reports, the two criminals, identified as Manoj Sahu and Biswajit Barik were injured during the encounter and later admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

Acting on a tip-off on the movement of the criminals, a special squad of police intensified inspection and patrolling at Chamakhandi area last night. Finding police on the spot, the two criminals opened fire and tried to flee with their vehicle but police fired at them in retaliation.

During the exchange of fire, the duo suffered injuries on their legs and were later nabbed by the cops.

Police seized two pistols, four live bullets, Rs 1.5 lakh cash and a car from their possession.

Sources said Sahu and Barik were absconding fearing arrest over involvement in a petrol pump loot case in Chamakhandi. Besides, the duo was involved in other criminal activities in other parts of Ganjam district.
