Jilted lover attacks married woman
Berhampur: A jilted lover today attacked and seriously injured a 22-year-old woman when she came to her parents’ house in Ganjam district for the first time after her marriage, the police said.
The woman, who was married on March 8, was attacked with a sharp weapon at Kaithapalli village under Bhanjanagar police station while she was returning from a temple.
She was hospitalised and her condition was stated to be out of danger, the police said adding a case was registered after her mother lodged an FIR.
The police seized a knife used by the accused, identified as 24-year-old Rama Chandra Rana, from the spot.
Rana, an unemployed youth of the same village, is absconding.
Police said Rana had wanted to marry her but his proposal was rejected. Apprehending that he could to create disturbance during the wedding, her family members held the marriage function at Berhampur town.
