IOCL campaign van seized in Jagatsinghpur
Jagatsinghpur: One of the campaign vans of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), named ‘Jan Amantran’ propagating various central government programmes, was seized by Jagatsinghpur collector yesterday for violating the Supreme court guidelines by displaying a picture of Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The campaign vehicle was seized in Balikuda raea on the orders of Jagatsinghpur collector Bijayketan Upadhaya. “The display board on the vehicle violates the Supreme Court guidelines on government advertisement. We have seized the vehicle for such violation,” said Upadhaya
Earlier, the ruling BJD had objected to the content used for display on the vehicle, following which the Information and Public Relations (I & PR) department sought a report from Jagatsinghpur district administration.
I&PR secretary asked the Jagatsinghpur collector to submit a status report on the alleged violation of the SC guidelines.
Subsequently, a war of words ensued between BJD and BJP on propagation of different Central Government programmes through the aforesaid campaign vans.
Meanwhile, Congress, till now a fence-sitter, has also joined the bandwagon and slammed both BJD and BJP saying that the tug-of-war between the two parties is nothing short of farcical. “The IOCL Refinery was given national-project status and funds were released during the Congress-led UPA government, but both the parties didn’t even have the courtesy to invite a Congress leader to the inauguration programme,” senior Congress leader Pradeep Majhi said.
