Dengue scare in Kendrapara, eight tested positive

Kendrapara: At least eight persons of Kalikapur village under Rajkanika block in Kendrapara district have so far been tested dengue positive and are undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical Collage and Hospital in Cuttack.

It is alleged that the encroachment of Khaichira nullah in the village, since the last few months, has resulted in stagnant water and turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“Due to the encroachment, the excessive rain water did not get way to disperse and entered Sabarnapur Basti and Harijanpur Basti of the village; many kuchcha houses caved in due to the water,” alleged a local Tapan Ratha, adding that the clogged water became the breeding ground of dengue infected mosquitoes.

“If the encroachment is cleared, the clogged water can be discharged and the problem will be solved,” said another resident of Kalikapur, Suresh Chandra Biswal.

On the other hand, district Collector Dashrath Satpathy assured to take appropriate measures to clear the encroachment.

“The Sub Collector has been directed to visit the village along with the local Tehsildar. After a detailed investigation, the encroached government land will be cleared,” informed Satpathy.
