Cyclone Fani: BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda reviews situation in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: Bharatiya Janata Party’s national vice president and spokesperson, Baijayant “Jay” Panda, today took stock of situation in different areas of Kendrapara district which have been massively affected by cyclone Fani.

Panda visited different cyclone-hit villages like Itipur, Gigahidia and Nilikana under Barua Panchayat of Kendrapara district and met the affected residents. The BJP leader expressed his grief over the losses incurred during cyclone Fani and extended help to the victims.

The former parliamentarian also informed the people about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on May 6 to take stock of the situation. Speaking to mediapersons, Panda said, “The areas near the sea have been severely affected by the cyclone. Relief was sent to Mahakalpada, Rajnagar and other parts of the district. Those who were shifted to different shelters were also assisted. Prior steps were taken by the union government.”

“When the air-traffic operation resumed after the cyclone, I conducted an aerial survey in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts yesterday. Steps are being taken to ensure that relief materials reach the affected people by road,” he added.

Panda further said, “The cyclone-hit people in most of the places are yet to get government assistance. I met several people whose houses were either completely damaged or roofs blown away due to the cyclone. PM Modi himself is coming here to review the situation. This shows, how much importance the Centre is giving to the State.”

Assuring to extend all possible help to cyclone-hit Odisha, the former Kendrapara MP said, “Any kind of central assistance, be it funds or anything else required will be provided to the State.”
