Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the terrorist attack on Pathankot Air Force base in Punjab, authorities of Biju Patnaik International Airport in the Odisha capital have restricted the entry of visitors to the airport for a week.

“Barring passengers, we have stopped the entry of the visitors to the airport for a week. We have taken this step as per the directive of the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The entry of the visitors has been stopped in all airports in the country in the wake of the Pathankot air base attack,” Sharad Kumar, director of Biju Patnaik International Airport told the media on Monday.

He also said the airport authorities have also intensified security measures.

“The CISF personnel deployed in the airport are ready to face any untoward incident. Besides, we are in regular touch with the State Police,” he added.

Talking about security measures, police commissioner RP Sharma said keeping the Pathankot air base attack incident in view, the city police has heightened its alertness level.

“Instructions have been given to the field officers to gather information from the areas under their jurisdiction and keep an eye on the movement of suspicious and outside elements. The intelligence apparatus of the commissionerate police has been put on high alert. We are in touch with other allied intelligence agencies to collect any such information at the earliest possible. Besides, the response team of the commissionerate police has been put on high alert to immediately deal with any eventuality,” Sharma said.
