Bhubaneswar: Former state BJP president and ex Union minister Jual Oram, BJP state general secretary and former party president Suresh Pujari and former LS member Sangeeta Kumari Singhdeo are among the 54 names in BJP’s first list of candidates announced in New Delhi for LS polls.

While Oram will contest for the Sundargarh (ST) seat, Pujari will be in fray for Sambalpur seat, party sources said.

Singhdeo will be trying for her luck from Bolangir, added the sources.

Similarly, former Rajya Sabha member Rudra Narayan Pani will contest from Dhenkanal constituency and state vice-president and former MP Parsuram Majhi will contest for the Nabarangpur (ST) seat.

Former MLA Baidhar Mallik has been named as the party’s candidate for Jagatsinghpur (SC) seat.

Party sources said BJP central election committee has been in the process of scrutinizing candidates for the remaining seats and the names will be announced soon. State BJP president K V Singhdeo had announced that his party would fight the elections in the state alone without having alliance with any party.

The list was released after a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee, covers eight states and includes six SCs and six STs, four minorities and two women.

The party’s Central Election Committee finalised the list after two hours of deliberations at the BJP headquarters where top leaders like Narendra Modi, L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi and M Venkaiah Naidu were present.
