Due to his brilliant form in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag was in serious contention for India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Several experts and fans were of the opinion that explosive all-rounder Parag should be considered in Team India middle order for the marquee event. However, as the selection committee named the 15-member squad, as well as four reserves, there was no place for Parag in the squad.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals star admitted that he wasn't considering himself to be a serious part of that race. Even Parag went on to the extent of sarcastically saying in an interaction that he wasn't even a contender to play in the current edition of IPL.

"oh really. Until last year, I was not even in contention to play in IPL right?" Parag said when asked about the disappointment of failure to make India's T20 World Cup squad.

"So I have heard a few rumours. I am not on social media anymore. I heard few noises here and there but I am just glad they are taking my name for the right reasons now. I was not really thinking about anything. I am really happy for the boys in our team, Sanju bhaiya specially, getting the call-up. It is going to be great for our country and hopefully we bring the World Cup home," said the explosive all-rounder.
