Women given anaesthesia left in limbo in Odisha hospital

Fresh allegations of severe mismanagement have once again surfaced at the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), this time during family planning surgeries.

According to reports, several women from different blocks of the district were brought to the hospital for the procedures. After four surgeries were conducted, the medical equipment allegedly broke down. As a result, multiple women who had already been administered anaesthesia were left waiting, unable to return home, creating a distressing situation for both patients and their families.

Relatives of the affected women expressed outrage over the incident.

“We came to the hospital as advised by ASHA and ANM workers. But after the women were given anaesthesia, the machine broke down. Now we cannot go back home. The authorities should make some arrangements for us,” said one family member.

Another patient lamented the lack of alternative facilities, “We are facing many difficulties. The machines here broke down and there are no backup arrangements.”

This is not the first time Bargarh DHH has faced criticism. The hospital has previously courted controversy for alleged unsafe medical practices, including the infamous “cardboard treatment” episode. The latest incident has once again raised serious concerns about the state of healthcare management at the district hospital.

So far, the hospital authorities have not issued an official response on the matter.
