Bhubaneswar: With the theme ‘Making Art: The Process’, the Jatin Das Centre of Arts (JDCA) unveiled the 9th National Film Festival on Arts and Artists at the IDCO auditorium here today.
Inaugurating the three-day-long event, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Events like this will inspire budding artists from various fields who are eager to pursue art in their life.”
He also thanked Padma Bhushan Jatin Das, eminent painter and founder of JDCA, for taking such an initiative and organizing the one-of-its kind film festival in the State.
An artist goes through many hardships and struggles to create a piece of art, but the audience hardly sees it, Das said pointing out that everyone only appreciates the final product.
He believes that this year’s theme will definitely give viewers a chance to witness and admire behind-the-scene stories of an artist.
His daughter Nadita Das, an acclaimed actress and film director, hosted the show with introducing the guests of the annual event to the audience.
The first day of the film fest started with the screening of ‘Journeys’ by Reena Mohan, followed by ‘Devlok’ by Devdutt Pattnaik and ‘Painter’s Sketchbook’ by M.F. Hussain.
‘To Let the World In: Vol-I’, a documentary directed by Avijit M. Kishore was also screened here followed by a Q&A session with the acclaimed filmmaker, said a JDCA release.
Apart from film screenings, the film fest will also throw some light on the various creative aspects of photography and filmmaking to inspire budding filmmakers and art enthusiasts.
State Culture and Tourism minister Ashok Panda, Culture and Tourism secretary Arabinda Padhi, renowned weaver Padmashree Chaturbhuja Mehar and festival director Biren Das were present on the occasion, the release added.
