Cuttack: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court here on Sunday remanded Bhola Bhagat, a close associate and business partner of gangster Dhalasamant brothers to Choudwar circle jail after police did not apply the court to take him on a fresh remand.

The Commissionerate Police will move court tomorrow to seek a fresh five-day remand of Bhagat.

Earlier in the day, the police produced Bhagat in JMFC court here as his five-day remand ended today.

Notably, a lower court on March 21 had allowed the investigators to take the the criminal brothers’ aide on remand.

Claiming that Bhagat was also involved in the murder of Dipu Mallick and Omm Prakash Swain, two former associates of the criminal siblings, police had sought a seven-day remand of him. But the court allowed five days of remand.

A team of Commissionerate Police with the help of state reserve police (SRP) had nabbed Bhagat from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on March 19 while he was on his way from Howrah to Allahabad.

Notably, Bhagat’s house here was raided by the police soon after the arrest of Dhalsamant brothers Sushant and Sushil on January 29.

It was ascertained that Bhagat had rented his house at Pokhariput in Bhubaneswar to the Dhalsamants, from where the brothers were arrested on January 29.
