Blood shortage in blood bank: Woman dies after delivery

Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a woman died after giving birth to an infant boy at the district headquarters hospital here due to shortage of blood in the blood bank.

The deceased has been identified as Bharati Dehuri, wife of Sarat Dehuri of Urumunda village under Bansapala block in the district.

According to sources, Bharati was first admitted to Suakati primary health centre after she felt labour pain. But as her condition became critical, doctors referred her to the district headquarters hospital.

Bharati was requiring B +ve blood during the delivery. So the doctors registered her name in the blood bank. As there was no B +ve blood stock in the blood bank, she died after giving birth to a baby boy due to the shortage of blood in the body, family members alleged.
