The voting for electing the vice president has begun in the Parliament with a direct contest between NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan and INDIA bloc's B Sudershan Reddy. Though parties like BRS, BJD and Shiromani Akali Dal have abstained from voting, the NDA candidate has a clear edge in winning the election. The voting will continue till 5 pm. The counting of votes will begin after 6 pm, and the results will be declared later in the evening. The Vice Presidential election was necessitated after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the position on July 21.

    C P Radhakrishnan thanks President, PM after his election as VP

    Vice President-elect C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday thanked President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their best wishes on his election to the second highest constitutional post of the country.

    Radhakrishnan won the vice presidential election on Tuesday by bagging 452 votes, while Opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy polled 300 votes. Radhakrishnan, who was elected as the 15th Vice President of India, took to 'X' to thank President Murmu and PM Modi for their greetings.

    "My heartfelt thanks to our Honourable President of India Smt. @rashtrapatibhvn Ji," he said in response to the President's post on X. "My heartfelt thanks to our Honourable Prime Minister Shri. @narendramodi Ji," Radhakrishnan said.

     Former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday extended greetings to his successor C P Radhakrishnan, saying that the office of the vice president will attain greater glory with his vast experience.

    This was Dhankhar's first public statement since demitting office in July.

    On Tuesday, NDA nominee Radhakrishnan won the vice presidential election by bagging 452 votes, while Opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy polled 300 votes.

    In a letter to Radhakrishnan, Dhankhar said, "Your elevation to this august office reflects the trust and confidence by the representatives of our nation."

    He said given Radhakrishnan's vast experience in public life, under his stewardship, the office would "certainly attain greater veneration and glory".
