The Naib Sarpanch of Dambasara Panchayat in Rayagada district’s Gunupur, Ranjita Tripathy, was found dead at her residence on Thursday, hanging inside her house. The incident has prompted police to launch a detailed investigation, as the exact cause of death remains unclear and all possibilities are being examined.
Ranjita Tripathy, a native of Perupanga village in Padmapur block, was married to Narasingh Tripathy of Apanaguda village in Gunupur block. She was serving as the Naib Sarpanch of Dambasara Panchayat at the time of her death.

Authorities are examining the circumstances to determine whether the death was a case of homicide or suicide.
Speaking to the police, the deceased’s brother stated, “Around 03:30 pm, we received a call from my niece that my sister is dead. I rushed to the hospital following that. She was severely tortured by her husband. We demand a proper investigation into the matter.” A written complaint has also been filed at the Gunupur police station requesting a detailed inquiry.
Police officials are collecting evidence and recording statements from family members and neighbours to ascertain the facts surrounding Ranjita’s death.
