Jeypore: A day after four Congress legislators including three from the undivided Koraput district met party vice president Rahul Gandhi, Opposition party Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said it is irrelevant for him if any one opposes him except common people of his constituency.

Asked about the involvement of the PCC leadership in the visit of the four party MLAs to Delhi as reaction for Bahinipati’s recent remark, the Jeypore legislator commented, “If common people of my constituency raises voice against me I will be frightened. However, if any leader does anything against me, I hardly bother. What harm they (four MLAs) can do to me? My leaders are Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. If a situation demands, I will sit at home but won’t eat my words. I do not fear of anyone.”

Disparaging opponents, Bahinipati said, “Who is having what strength will be known from the results of the ensuing panchayat polls.”

He added, “Bhalu Bahinipati has never been a weak person either mentally or physically. I have reached this stage after fighting for many years. How far I can go and how much I can fight the future will only tell.”

“The AICC’s responsibility to take everyone along. However, if anyone is applying a ‘divide and rule’ policy of the British era, I have not anything to say,” the Congress chief whip said.

“We should have priority that the Congress should live. Who else is doing what does not matter,” he added.
