The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its attack on the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ahead of the first phase of voting in Odisha. This time BJD supremo and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has come in the firing line of the BJP.

On Tuesday, BJP leader Sajjan Sharma targetted the CM over alleged corruption, crime and law and order situation. At a presser held at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar, the senior BJP leader said that the CM had dropped three cabinet ministers in the past to boast about its clean image but nothing was proved against them. He also then gave a clarion of ‘No PC’.

“We want to ask whether Odisha is free from corruption or the PC (percentage culture). Today in Odisha, JE, Tehsildar, RI are being caught taking bribe, which are being reported in media. Only low rank officials are being caught while big fish are going scot free. Is CMO is protecting the top officials?” Sharma questioned.

According to Sharma, the biggest corruption in Odisha is the chit fund scam. If a BJD leader is found involved in any crime, the party is giving ticket to his/her son/daughter, he alleged.

“The Odisha government had set up a Commission and announced that the money would be returned to the duped investors. We want to ask how much money of the chit fund companies was confiscated and whether it has been returned to the investors,” the BJP leader alleged.

Sharma also questioned whether justice has been delivered in the sensational Itishree, Bebina or Madhabilata cases.

No comments could be obtained from the BJD over the allegations.
