Minor Girl Rape Case In Odisha: Man In Kandhamal Gets 10 Years RI

A court in Kandhamal district has sentenced a 32-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2014.

Balliguda Additional district judge Bhaskar Chandra Sahu Thursday convicted the man and sentenced him to jail for 10 years.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.

According to the prosecution, the man who hails from Balliguda had called the girl, a resident of a nearby village, to work with him in a field.

While returning, he took the girl to a roadside jungle and raped her.

The victim's mother had lodged the complaint against the accused.

The judgment was pronounced after examining 11 witnesses, the medical report, and the statement of the girl.

Banks To Remain Closed In Odisha On August 30

 All banks and other banking institutions in Odisha will remain closed on August 30 on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmastami, the State government announced on Friday.

As per a notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management department, “Under the explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 and the notification of Government of India (Ministry of Home Affairs) dated June 8, 1957, the public holidays, expressly defined in the said explanation, that the banking institutions in Odisha, will remain closed on August 30, 2021 (Monday) on the occasion of Janmastami.”
