In good news for the people of Odisha especially the farmer community, the southwest monsoon has set in over Odisha on Saturday.

This year the monsoon has arrived four days earlier than the normal scheduled date. The monsoon has covered some parts of Malkangiri district today and gradually it will cover other parts of the State in a phased manner, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per sources, conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into other parts of the State in the next few days after its arrival in Malkangiri. Most probably, it will cover most parts of the State in the next four days.

With the early arrival of monsoon, the people of Odisha are likely to get some relief from the sweltering heat and humid conditions prevailing in the State.

The southwest monsoon has made an early arrival in the State this time as per the forecast made by the IMD earlier. Monsoon normally makes an onset over southern parts of Odisha around June 12 and this time it has reached the State around four days in advance.

The India Meteorological Department had earlier stated that conditions were favourable for the early arrival of the southwest monsoon in the state.
IMD has predicted more than normal rainfall this year in the country. However, it has been predicted that there will be less amount of rainfall than normal level in Odisha this year.

"Southwest monsoon has set in over Odisha. It has covered some parts of Malkangiri district today. However, coastal Odisha will experience hot and humid conditions for the next five days. A yellow warning has been issued for heat wave conditions in some parts of Western Odisha from June 11-12," said meteorologist Sanjeev Dwivedi.
