The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a warning for rain and thunderstorm in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

The IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar has also issued an advisory for intense spell of rainfall (2-3 cm/hour) in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar today.

Due to the intense spell of rainfall, there could be traffic congestion and disruption and even waterlogging in low-lying areas of the twin cities. It is pertinent to mention here that already several parts of Odisha are experience light to moderate rainfall under the influence of a low pressure area.

The low pressure area was formed over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal yesterday.

As per IMD, Incessant heavy rainfall disrupted normal life in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore. In last 24 hours, Kakatpur in Puri received maximum rainfall of 160mm, followed by 144 mm in Astaranga, Balikuda 140mm and Nuagaon recorded 131mm of rainfall.

The rainfall activities also played spoil sport especially for the puja revellers on the occasion of Maha Navami today.
