Four migrant workers from Odisha die in 3 days outside State!

In a deeply distressing development, as many as four Odia migrant workers from Ganjam district’s Patrapur block have died within a short span of just three days, leaving their families and communities in mourning.

The deceased have been identified as Ujjwal Pradhan from Bhairapur village, Bijaya Dalei from Rajpur, Tumbanath Behera from Badapur, and Gadadhar Gouda from Tinigharia village under Mandarada panchayat.

All of them had migrated outside Odisha in search of work to support their impoverished families, as they did not find a job in the State to meet their household expenses.

While the bodies of three workers have already been brought back to their native villages, the mortal remains of Gadadhar Gouda have not yet arrived.

According to family members, all the victims belonged to economically weaker sections and had gone outside the State as Dadan (migrant) labourers, struggling to make ends meet. Their untimely deaths have left dependents devastated.

Local villagers and bereaved families have demanded immediate government compensation and urged the district administration to create local employment opportunities to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Chikiti MLA has visited the families, offered condolences, and assured action by drawing the government’s attention towards financial aid and long-term solutions.

The tragic incident has reignited the debate around safe migration, labour rights, and rural livelihood options in Odisha.

“I will try to see how bereaved families of the deceased persons will get government assistance. I will discuss with the Government in this regard and bring solace to the families,” Chikiti MLA, Manoranjan Dyan Samantara, said.
