Have you ever encountered a pop-up message while browsing an 18+ website, torrent site, or music download site?
Recently, scammers have devised a new and unconventional way to steal people's money through pop-up scams.

This scam involves a (Un) OFFICIAL Notice that pops up on your screen, asking you to pay a hefty fine of Rs 30,000 for visiting such websites.

What's worse, you can't close the website, and your entire browser will freeze, making it difficult for you to do anything else on your device.

Is it really a government notification?

Many people in India wonder if the pop-up message they see is a government notification.

In reality, the government of India bans such websites due to their vulnerability and sexual content, but the ads are not from the government of India.

The scammers behind this pop-up scam use a fully-scripted code that is designed to look like an official government website.

When you click any video or download music, the code activates, freezing your screen and making you believe that you need to pay the fine to avoid further consequences.

How to protect yourself from this type of scam

If you encounter such a pop-up message, the first thing you need to do is not panic and never pay the fine.

Instead, you should try to close the window by going to the upper part of your device where the crusher is located. In that section, you will see a cancel icon. Click here to close the tab.

For instance, you should never visit such websites that are known for their vulnerability and sexual content.

Also, you should install a reliable anti-virus and anti-malware software that can detect and block such scams.

Lastly, you should always keep your software and applications up-to-date to avoid any potential security vulnerabilities.
