India suffered a crushing defeat by a margin of 209 runs against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at the Oval on Sunday.

Led by Pat Cummins, Australia had set an imposing target of 444 runs for India to chase on the previous day. On the final day, India had 280 runs to score with seven wickets in hand. However, their hopes were quickly dashed when star batsman Virat Kohli fell early in the innings after adding just five runs to his overnight score. Australia capitalized on this breakthrough swiftly dismissing India’s middle and lower order within the first session of play to register the resounding victory.

After India’s crushing defeat against Australia, several fans took to Twitter to vent their ire. They compared Team India as the new South African team who are known as perennial chokers in ICC tournaments.

“It is often disheartening to witness performances that fall short of expectations in the ICC final stages,” wrote a fan.

“Wah #TeamIndia what a play. Mat khelo #testcricket  aap log sifr #ipl hi khelo. Aap logo ke bas ka nahi raha ab #InternationalCricket and also our captain #RohitSharma Sharma decision hi ni lene aata. #bcci . Raha saha #Thirdumpire ka decision and #Australia  cricketer ki #cheat,” tweeted another fan.

Taking a dig at Team India captain Rohit Sharma, a third user commented, “Don’t Worry #RohitSharma We Have #5IPL Toffies.”
