Indian Premier League (IPL) is a great platform where cricketers can showcase their talents to impress the selectors of their respective national teams. Many young cricketers have used the platform well to perform brilliantly to have an entry into their national teams. Moreover, many snubbed cricketers have also made a comeback to their respective national teams by performing well in the mega event. Many young and veteran Indian cricketers have been benefitted by IPL in this regard.

The ongoing edition of IPL is also very important as Team India will play the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 directly after the tournament. BCCI has already given a hint that the Indian squad for the ICC event will be selected on the basis of their performances in first part of IPL 2024.

In recent times, there has been a lot of debate around on the selection of players for the marquee event. As evident in the past, the selectors often take a few out-of-box decisions while selecting the team. Under the circumstance, selectors may spring few surprises by picking some snubbed cricketers in the Indian team for the upcoming mega event.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has performed pretty well in IPL 2024 so far. The veteran spinner is the joint-highest wicket-taker in the mega competition. Chahal has so far picked ten wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.33. Moreover, he has also bowled in tough situations. He is one of the highest wicket-takers in T20Is for India. However, he hasn’t played international cricket for almost a year. Chahal has not played many ICC tournaments in his career. But if we look at the coming event, he can be very effective on slow pitches in USA and West Indies. Many experts are of the opinion that Yuzi will be a better choice as a spinner in the Indian team for the upcoming marquee event.

Ishan Kishan

BCCI was reportedly not happy with aggressive wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan after he refused to play Ranji Trophy despite head coach Rahul Dravid’s advice. Though Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson are the front-runners for the lone wicketkeeper spot in the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, Kishan’s exploits with Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League may earn him a spot in the Indian team. Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar and his team may spring in a surprise by picking Kishan in the team.

MI opener Kishan is probably one of the most destructive batters when he gets going. The aggressive batter has scored 161 runs at an average of 32.20 and a strike rate of 182.95 in IPL 2024 so far. Though Kishan has been sacked from the central contract, Dravid has made it clear that he can still make a comeback to the Indian team based on his performances in domestic cricket.
