T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies and USA is just round the corner and players for the Indian team will be selected soon.

Several players are in direct competition for the 15-member Indian squad. The wicketkeeper’s place is up for grabs with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson emerging as the front runners on the basis of their performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). While Pant has his own fan base in the form of some former players, Samson has performed better than the southpaw in IPL 2024.

Sanju has been in brilliant form with the bat and behind the stumps for the table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR). Royals have almost qualified for the playoffs after winning their eighth match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Meanwhile, former India great Harbhajan Singh has labelled Sanju as the number-one choice in the wicketkeeper’s role. As per the legendary off-spinner, it would be a grave injustice to Samson if he was left out of the Indian team for the global tournament.

“Sanju Samson is my number one choice as he has been the best Indian performer in this year’s IPL. He is winning matches under challenging situations, and his captaincy is spot on. There is hardly any moment when he has looked under pressure,” said Harbhajan on air.

“Sanju is playing aggressively and even anchoring the innings when needed. Samson is in full confidence and there is no way you can keep him out. If he doesn’t get a chance, I will say he has been treated wrongly. I hope the selectors don’t ignore him,” the former spinner added.
