Team India’s 360 degree batsman Suryakumar Yadav is currently in England as a reserve player in the team preparing for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final against formidable Australia to be played at the Oval starting from June 7.

Before the high-octane clash, the explosive batsman showcased his joyful demeanour in a lively rapid-fire session. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a video on its official Twitter handle. 

In the video, the swashbuckling batsman responded to some questions from the fans. During the session, Surya shared an intriguing anecdote about his popular nickname ‘SKY. 

Surya revealed during the session that this moniker was bestowed upon him by former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir during their stint together at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

“The nickname came in 2014/15 when I was playing for KKR. That time Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) gave this name as Suryakumar Yadav was too long. Everyone called me SKY from there,” Suryakumar Yadav said in the video.

When asked about his favourite teammate, SKY said, “There are a lot of them. If you look around, everyone is my best mate. But I love spending time with Ishan (Kishan), Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin. Good to be around them.”

The video has gone viral over various social media platforms. The video has garnered more than two lakh views and 11,100 likes on Twitter.
