Elaborate security arrangements will be put in place in Bhubaneswar during the upcoming FIH Odisha Men's Hockey World Cup 2023, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh said on Wednesday.

Singh reviewed the security arrangements in the Capital City ahead of the mega event to be played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and the newly-constructed Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela from January 13-29. 

As per reports, a meeting was held between Commissionerate Police, CISF and Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) authorities to discuss how the players will reach the hotel and stadium with ease.

Players of the foreign teams, coach and technical staff and VIPs will start arriving in Bhubaneswar from January 4. Discussion was held in the meeting about the departure gates of the players from the Airport.

Elaborate security arrangement has been made for the players, coaches and technical staff of the different teams during the mega event. As many as 50 platoon police forces will be deployed during the World Cup in Bhubaneswar. Two platoon police forces will be deployed in the Airport only.

Besides elaborate security arrangements will be provided in the team hotels for 24 hours.

“We have a detailed discussion about security arrangements for the World Cup. We reviewed all the security arrangements in detail to ensure the safety and security of the players. We will start deployment of security forces in the airport from January 3,” said DCP Singh.

“We will open a control room in front of the departure gate of the airport. The timing of the arrival of all the teams will be coordinated and security services will be provided accordingly. Besides, we have also discussed with the members of the taxi association to ensure the smooth travel of the general passengers. The taxi owners have been asked to have cordial behavior with the tourists during the mega event,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, BPIA Director Prasanna Pradhan said that the security of the players will be ensured following coordination with the Commissionerate Police.

“Indian team has already arrived and reached Rourkela. Other teams will start arriving from January 4. The security of players and supporting staff will be ensured by proper coordination with Commissionerate Police,” said Pradhan.
