India will take on defending champions England in their next league stage match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in Lucknow on October 29. A victory in the all-important match will almost seal a spot for the Men in Blue in the semifinals of the mega event.

However, England are always proved to be a tough opponent for India in the history of ODI World Cup. Both the teams have so far played eight matches among each other in the ICC World Cups. Among those matches, while India have won three matches, England have emerged victorious in four matches. One match has ended in a thrilling tie.

The highest total posted by England in these matches is a mammoth 338 runs which showcases their batting prowess. On the other hand, India have also matched it with an equally impressive 338 runs. It highlights the fierce competition between both the formidable teams. The lowest total posted by India in these matches was 132. On the other hand, England have scored the lowest score of 168. 

India vs England in World Cups

1975: Sunil Gavaskar scored 36 no off 174 deliveries during India’s chase of 335 runs. It turned the match into a controversy.

1983: India scripted a major upset by beating hosts England by six wickets in the semifinal. They went on to emerge champions in that edition of the mega event.

1987: England took revenge by beating the defending champions at their own den in the Wankhede Stadium.

1992: Under the leadership of Mohammed Azharuddin, India lost to England by a narrow margin of nine runs.

1999: India bounced back in 1999 by defeating hosts England by a healthy margin of 63 runs in Birmingham.

2003: It was a lop-sided affair in favour of India in Durban. Riding on a scintillating performance by speedster Ashis Nehra, India scripted an emphatic victory by 82 runs against England.

2011: The exciting match between both the formidable teams was tied.

2019: India lost the high scoring match by 31 runs.
