Lionel Messi is facing the heat on various social media platforms following Argentina’s stunning loss against lower-ranked opponent Saudi Arabia in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ahead of Argentina’s second game against Mexico, Messi shared a picture of legendary footballer Diego Maradona on his second death anniversary. Messi posted a picture of Maradona from his playing days without any caption. It is no secret that Messi was close to Maradona.

Messi’s gesture came a day after fans and Maradona’s son Diego Sinagra criticised the Argentine skipper following the upset against Saudi Arabia.

After their shocking loss to Green Falcons in the opener, Maradona’s son Sinagra said, “I am devastated by this defeat.”

“The comparison between Messi and my dad is made by those who do not understand football. We are talking about two different planets, but I do not want to immediately throw the cross at Lionel,” he added.

After the shocking loss, the match against Mexico is a must-win for Argentina. In case they lose, Argentina will make an early exit from the mega event. Both the teams have met thrice at the World Cup stage with Argentina winning all three times.
