Odisha BJP on Wednesday accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the State government of shielding Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra despite the latter’s alleged involvement in the murder of Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher.

“Monitoring of the ongoing investigation into the sensational murder case of Mamita by a former district judge is a planned conspiracy to protect the Minister,” said BJP chief whip Mohan Majhi at a press conference.

“We reiterate our demands for a CBI probe into the case and the ouster of the Minister from the State cabinet. If the State government is transparent, the tainted Minister should be axed and a CBI probe be ordered immediately,” said Majhi adding that the Saffron party will intensify its demands in the State Assembly.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the saffron party met Speaker Surya Narayan Patro today and asked clarification over allowing ‘tainted’ Minister Mishra into the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

“In the past, former Speaker Maheswar Mohanty had not allowed the then Minister Samir Dey to take part in the proceedings of the house for some allegations against him. Then how Mishra was allowed entry into the house despite his alleged involvement in the lady teacher murder case?” asked Majhi.

Sources said Speaker Patro has assured the BJP delegation of looking into the matter.

“The Speaker has assured us to look into the earlier convention of the House and take an appropriate decision regarding the matter at the earliest,” said Majhi.
