Tightening the noose around corrupt government officials, the Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested the IIC of Bongamunda police station in Bolangir district on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The police official has been identified as Binod Nayak.

After receiving information from reliable sources regarding collection of huge cashes by Nayak as gratification from people, a team of vigilance sleuths had kept a close watch on the policeman’s  movement and activities.

As per reports, the anti-corruption officials seized over Rs 3.8 lakh cash during a raid at Nayak’s government residence in Bongamunda on Tuesday.

Moreover, a Vigilance team intercepted Nayak near Bargarh toll gate in the evening and recovered around Rs 2 lakh cash from his possession which he could not account for satisfactorily. A car and other documents were also seized from his possession.

A case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act has been registered against Nayak in this connection. Further investigation into the case is underway.

Earlier a day before, the Odisha Vigilance sleuths had traced movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 2.16 crore in possession of Sudarsan Pradhan, a constable in Berhampur police station.

The officials of the anti-corruption wing had conducted simultaneous searches at the property of Pradhan following allegations of him amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
