Man on hunt for wild boar dies of bullet injury in Gajapati; deceased's brother-in-law detained by police

In Gajapati district, a man named Kailash Nayak died from bullet injuries during a wild boar hunt. The incident occurred when his brother-in-law, Uday, fired the shot. Uday is detained for police questioning to determine if it was accidental or intentional, given their history of enmity.

In an unfortunate incident, a man died of bullet injuries while on a hunt for wild boars at Bhaliagani village under Mohana block in Gajapati district late Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Kailash Nayak.

As per reports, eight to ten persons from the village had gone to the nearby forest to hunt wild boars on the occasion of the Raja festival. However, Kailash unfortunately was injured after a bullet was fired by his brother-in-law Uday during the hunting activities.

Later, Kailash succumbed to the bullet injury.

Following the development, Mohana police reached the spot and seized the body. The accused-Uday Nayak has been detained at the police station. He is currently being interrogated by the police as part of the investigation process into the incident.

According to some local residents, Kailash and Uday had enmity for a long time. They suspect that Uday might have found it as a golden opportunity to kill Kailash during the poaching.

The family members of the deceased have also alleged that Uday has killed Kailash as both of them had enmity and he had also attacked the latter several times in the past.


Police are investigating the matter to ascertain whether it is a case of murder or accidental firing.
