In an unfortunate incident, two minor sisters sustained grievous burn injuries following a mobile phone explosion at Lakhari village under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district. The victim duo has been identified as Namita Raika and Sushila Raika.

The two sisters were watching a video on a cell phone when the incident occurred. All of a sudden, the mobile phone blasted for reasons yet to be ascertained, leaving both of them critically injured. One of them got injuries in her hand while her sister sustained burn injuries on her leg.

Hearing the blast sound, family members rushed to the spot and rescued the duo in critical condition. They were immediately rushed to Chandragiri Community Health Centre (CHC) where they are currently under observation. While no exact reason behind the explosion was known immediately, locals suspect it could have happened due to overheating.

Notably, a similar incident was reported from Mangarajpur village under Badamba block in Cuttack district a few days back on June 15. A five-year-old child had sustained burn injuries following a mobile explosion in a similar manner.

The rising incidents of mobile phone explosions have become a matter of serious concern.
