A day after the Odisha Home Department enquired about senior IPS officer Ashish Singh’s whereabouts; DGP Arun Sarangi on Friday said he has already joined his duty on June 3.

More than a fortnight ago, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Odisha government to take appropriate action against IPS officer Ashish Singh for misrepresentation of facts about his health. Yesterday, the Home Department sought the senior IPS officer’s whereabouts from the state’s top cop.

While responding to the Home Department’s letter to him, the DGP said, “The government had sanctioned Ashish Singh’s leave from May 4 to June 2. After completion of his leave period, he joined on June 3. He is working in the Intelligence Directorate.”

“His joining report should have come from the Intelligence Directorate to our office. As per the routine correspondence, the letter from our office is sent to the Home Department. The Correspondence is done at the lower level. In this case, I will enquire why the letter hasn’t been sent to the Home Department,” he said.

“Since his joining on June 3, he has attended several meetings. He was also present in the meeting on New Criminal Law held in DGP Camp Office on June 17,” he added.
