A bedridden woman from Gila Judi village under Raghunathpur block in Balasore district, who is suffering from acute poverty and ailment, appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Majhi for euthanasia as her ordeal has become unbearable.

The woman has been identified as Kanchana Nayak. As per reports Kanchana has been living alone in a rented house at Jaleswar for the last 35 years as she has no relationship with her family members.

Earlier, Kanchana was making her living with a lot of difficulty by working in a printing press. Later, she started her own printing press. However, her leg was broken when she fell down the stairs while climbing down in her rented house 15 days back.

Following the development, local people and some of her distant relatives took her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where she underwent surgery. Subsequently, she was brought back to her rented house. However, she is currently bedridden and not in a position to earn her living by working anymore. Shattered over her acute poverty and unbearable pain, she has requested the Chief Minister through social media to allow her for euthanasia.

“I am a helpless woman, residing at a rented house in Ward No.9 of Jaleswar constituency in Balasore district. My back and leg have been broken after I fell down the stairs 15 days back. I underwent treatment in Cuttack. Now, I am not in a position to live. I request to allow me for euthanasia. Please be kind to this hapless woman,” read Kanchan's post in Odia.

“My pain is no longer bearable. I am unable to move and have nobody besides me. I am not able to even move. How I will live in this rented house alone? That is why I have appealed to the Chief Minister for euthanasia,” she said.
