The project director of the District Urban Development Agency of Bhadrak on Thursday made a surprise visit to the Aahaar Centre at Chandbali to inspect the quality of food items served at the centre.

Project director, Manas Ranjan Ray visited the centre after the Chandbali unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) drew the district administration’s attention to several lapses at the said centre.

The project director and the Sadar councillor reached the centre when people were having their lunch. They tested the quality of the food items being served at that time and inspected the kitchen to assess adherence to hygiene.

The beneficiaries alleged that the quality of the Dalma served was poor.

“The rice being served at the centre is of good quality. But the Dalma’s quality is very poor. Its consistency is as thin as water and there are no vegetables,” complained a beneficiary.

Before leaving the centre, project director, Ray assured the beneficiaries that better quality food would be served in the coming days.
“From what I saw, I can say the quality of the food items needs improvement. I will talk to the persons involved and take action in this regard,” said Ray.

When journalists sought his reaction on food items being cooked elsewhere, he said, “As a kitchen is provided to them, they shouldn’t have brought from elsewhere. I will look into it and take proper action.”
