For Representational Purpose

The metro network has expanded from 248 km in 2014 to 1,011 km by March 2025, covering over 20 cities in India.
India's urban transit landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation with the expansion of metro rail networks, providing a swift, dependable, and environmentally sustainable commuting option.

Government initiatives in recent years have accelerated metro connectivity across major metropolitan areas, easing traffic congestion and improving daily travel experiences. Since 2014, the metro network has seen rapid growth, significantly enhancing public transportation infrastructure.

A crucial contributor to this progress is BEML Limited, a ‘Schedule A’ enterprise under the Ministry of Defence. The company has been at the forefront of manufacturing metro coaches, supplying more than 2,000 units as of May 2024 to key cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Mumbai, strengthening India's metro ecosystem.

Beyond metro expansion, India has also embraced high-speed regional transit solutions. The introduction of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) represents a major step towards advanced intercity connectivity.

Namo Bharat Trains

The Namo Bharat trains, operating on the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, stand as a testament to India’s dedication to modernizing public transportation, offering faster, more efficient travel between urban centers.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is also a long-term initiative to modernise railway stations across India which aims at enhancing passenger amenities, multimodal connectivity, and overall infrastructure.

With a focus on continuous development, the scheme aims to transform stations into modern transit hubs. As of March 12, 2025, 1,337 stations have been identified for upgradation, ensuring improved accessibility, better facilities, and a seamless travel experience.
