Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Odisha on September 27 as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Seva Paksha programme, with reports adding that he may address a public rally in Berhampur during the visit.

Detailed schedules, including the final itinerary, are likely to be announced shortly. The Odisha leg is being viewed as a significant political exercise for the BJP, coinciding with the party’s fortnight-long nationwide Seva Paksha outreach programme.

Seva Paksha Initiatives

Seva Paksha, observed annually to mark Modi’s birthday, involves social service campaigns and welfare activities across constituencies.

Sources reported that party workers in Odisha are preparing for blood donation camps, health check-ups, sanitation drives, and community assistance programmes during the fortnight. The Prime Minister’s likely participation in Berhampur is expected to highlight these initiatives and strengthen grassroots connections.

Northeast Tour Ahead Of Odisha

On Saturday, the PM will travel to Manipur in his first visit since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. He is expected to launch projects worth more than Rs 7,300 crore, including the new Manipur Police Headquarters, a civil secretariat, and an IT hub.

The possible Odisha visit comes in the middle of Modi’s packed eastern and northeastern tour. Today, he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore in Mizoram.

The projects included the Bairabi–Sairang railway line, which connects Aizawl to the national railway network for the first time. He also flagged off new train services linking Mizoram with Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata.

Notably, the Churachandpur programme marked the first prime ministerial visit to the town since Rajiv Gandhi in 1988.

Focus On Eastern States

Following the Manipur visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati and launch Rs 18,000-crore projects in Assam.

Further, his itinerary also includes the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference in Kolkata and major project launches in Bihar, including a Rs 25,000-crore thermal power plant in Pirpainti.
