Sundergarh Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan on Sunday ordered an investigation after an audio of a government official in the district reportedly demanding financial favour to settle a compensation case of an oustee of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) mine project went viral on the internet.

The move from the district collector came soon after a report regarding the same was first aired by Odisha’s leading news channel OTV on Saturday.

"I had received a complaint regarding a RI demanding favour for settlement of compensation for displaced in MCL's land acquisition. We will rectify all such issues and actions will be taken after receiving the investigation report," Kalyan had said in his reaction to OTV.

As per reports, Bhaskar Badhei, a resident of Kurumakel village under Lefripada block, who had to relocate to make way for MCL's Mahalaxmi project, has levelled such serious allegations against RI Amiya Chhura.

Badhei has said that while he awaits a compensation of Rs 95 lakh from the company, recently, when he approached the authorities to get his due, the RI demanded Rs 2 lakh as a bribe from him to forward his file to the higher authority.
