Odisha’s Poonam Gupta Mishra has been appointed as one of the members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC).

Poonam, who is the wife of eminent economist Deepak Mishra, has been inducted into the reconstituted seven-member EAC of the Prime Minister as a part time member.

Poonam, who belongs to Anandabazar area under Betanati block in Mayurbhanj district, is the daughter-in-law of renowned litterateur Rama Mishra and social worker Ajit Mishra. Both Rama and Ajit are over the moon with the success of their daughter-in-law.

“Poonam is a briliant student. Her plans are always meticulous. She is also an ideal wife, mother and daughter-in-law. There are many things to learn from her. We are really proud of her success,” said Rama, Poonam’s mother-in-law.

Rama’s father-in-law Ajit was also lavish in her praise. “We have watched Poonam’s progress from very close quarters. When she decided to pursue her higher studies from America, we were certain that she has a long way to go and she really proved it,” said Ajit.

Congratulatory messages also poured in from all quarters across the State for Poonam’s rare feat.

Poonam, who is currently the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), has previously served as Lead Economist, Global Macro and Market Research, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and lead Economist for India at the World Bank. She has also served as Reserve Bank of India Chair Professor at National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and Professor at Indian Council for Research on International Economics Relation.

Notably, along with Poonam, Rakesh Mohan and TT Ram Mohan have also been appointed as part-time members of the reconstituted EAC of the Prime Minister. The new advisory council has been appointed for a period of two years.
