Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor
As artificial intelligence continues to redefine the digital space, its misuse has sparked growing concern, particularly in the entertainment industry.
At the trailer launch of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, lead stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor candidly addressed the darker side of AI and its impact on creativity, consent, and authenticity.
Janhvi Kapoor, who plays Tulsi in Shashank Khaitan’s rom-com, shared how unsettling AI-generated images have personally affected her. “When I see on social media, there are so many AI images being circulated against my will,” she revealed. “You and I can say it’s an AI image, but the common man will think, ‘Yeh toh yeh pehen ke pohonch gayi (She really wore this).’” Calling herself “old-school,” Janhvi emphasised the importance of protecting human creativity and genuine storytelling.
Varun Dhawan echoed similar worries. While acknowledging the benefits of technology, he stressed its risks. “Technology is helpful, but it has its demerits. Laws and regulations are needed to protect actors and their identity from being misused,” he said. He further highlighted that what sets actors apart is their unique “X-factor,” something artificial intelligence cannot replicate.
Their remarks come at a time when Bollywood is actively debating AI’s role in cinema. Recently, criticism erupted after Aanand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa was altered with AI and re-released in Tamil with a different ending, raising ethical questions around creative control.
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari features Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Akshay Oberoi, and Maniesh Paul. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a big fat Indian wedding, the film promises a mix of romance, humour, and family drama. Backed by Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment, it is scheduled to hit theatres on 2 October 2025.
