While the world is battling against some of the pressing issues like climate change, and global warming along with serious health problems, the humble bicycle has the potential to address the need of the hour.

Once used as a means of transportation, the bicycle has now elevated itself to the position where it can help people get rid of a lethargic lifestyle.

Marred by the Covid-19 pandemic, the world suffered many post-covid health complications. People, who once used to ignore their health due to their busy work schedules, took out some time to keep themselves fit and the bicycle has played a crucial role in achieving that fitness goal.

"I have taken cycling as a sport and preparing for national-level competitions. I ride bicycle for 40-50 kms daily. May it be for fitness or transportation, there is nothing better than a bicycle," said Sangam Patnaik, a bicycle enthusiast.

Echoing the same opinion, Amulya Ram, a resident of Cuttack said, "After the Covid-19 pandemic people have taken their health very seriously. Cycling is not just an affordable means of transportation, but it also helps to keep you fit."

Ajay Kumar Nanda, secretary of Bhubaneswar Cycling and Adventure Club said, "I urge everyone not just to celebrate World Bicycle Day on a particular day, rather people should come forward and take out some time to ride bicycle at least once or twice a week. We can use bicycles to reach offices, schools and cover small distances. If we can add bicycles to our day-to-day schedule, then the world will become a nicer place to live in."

"After the Covid-19 pandemic, a boom was witnessed in the bicycling industry. People bought cycles and hit the streets. But, now the industry has again slowed down and people are refraining from cycling," Nanda added.
