A rare and captivating celestial event is all set to grace the night skies today i.e. August 30. The spectacular occurrence will be one of the most significant cosmic phenomena of 2023.

All sky enthusiasts and astronomy lovers will be in for a treat as a super blue moon is going to make its appearance today, coinciding with the celebration of Rakhi Purnima. This phenomenon arises due to the moon’s elliptical, rather than circular, orbit around Earth, causing variations in its distance from perigee to apogee.

The span of this rare occurrence can stretch up to 20 years which makes it exceptionally rare. The term ‘blue moon’ refers to the second full moon with a single calendar month, as defined by NASA.

According to reports, the super blue moon is expected to reach its peak brightness precisely at around 20:37 EDT. For the best view, sky enthusiasts are advised to use a telescope or binoculars to capture all of its distinctive features.

However, if lucky, people may still be able to experience it with the naked eye. The optimal time for observing the super blue moon is just before sunset.

Additionally, live streaming options will be available on various websites for those interested.
