  • Salman Khan has been more a cult figure for masses rather than classes.
  • And most of the reality shows are watched by these masses.

It is nowadays very much normal for Bollywood stars to host talk shows or podcasts on their YouTube channels or even a reality show on television/OTT. But very few Bollywood stars have been able to make a mark as a television host in the last few decades. Of course, the biggest bet was taken by Amitabh Bachchan when he decided to host Kaun Banega Crorepati to bring back himself from the financial ruin.

Many followed suit including Govinda, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and more but the only actor who somehow came closer to the success Big B achieved as telly host was the Dabangg Khan. Despite being known for his witty answers, and his so-famous presence of mind, Shah Rukh Khan failed to attract TRP with his stint on KBC, and other reality shows that he hosted including Zor Ka Jhatka, Panchvi Paas se Tez, Ted Talks, India Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun.

On the other hand, Salman Khan who has been more a cult figure for masses rather than classes is to date the most successful Indian television show host after Amitabh Bachchan. He continued to host Bigg Boss every season for more than a decade and even his game show Dus Ka Dum was a big success.

So what can be the reason the Badshah of Bollywood who was the biggest superstar ahead of Aamir and Salman failed to create the same magic on television? Recently a thread on Reddit discussed the possible reasons behind the Sultan actor getting more fame and acknowledgement than SRK as a telly host and the reactions from the web users were quite interesting.

Why SRK couldn’t become as successful in reality tv shows like Salman did

According to a user, “Srk speaks very fast and his sense of humor doesn't sit well with the older age group which is the main target audience of prime-time TV.” Another user believes that “SRK's sense of humour and his style of speaking isn't meant for the masses. TV audiences love watching someone like Kapil Sharma. Salman Khan fits into that.”

Many social media users believe that while Shah Rukh Khan tries very hard to look the part, both Amitabh and Salman are at ease while hosting these shows and hence were accepted more freely by the audience.
