A 45-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his nephew at Bijaghata village under Lahunipada police station in Sundargarh district on Wednesday following an altercation over a trivial matter.

The accused also assaulted the seven-year-old daughter of the victim leaving her seriously injured.

While the deceased has been identified as Rabindra Nayak, the accused happens to be his nephew Sushant Nayak.

According to reports, Sushant had been using the bicycle of his uncle (Rabindra) since a long time. When Rabindra asked him to bring back the cycle, Sushant returned it in a very bad condition. Rabindra expressed his displeasure over the condition of the cycle which led to a heated exchange between them. Sushant lost his cool during the altercation and allegedly attacked his uncle with a sharp-edged weapon leaving him seriously injured.

While a physical fight was on between the two, Rabindra’s seven-year-old daughter Sandhya happened to appear at the place. In a fit of rage, Sushant didn’t even spare the little girl and cut one of her hands with the weapon.

Rabindra later succumbed to his injuries, but not before hitting the head of his nephew hard with a sturdy stick.
Upon being informed, the Lahunipada police reached the spot and shifted both the injured to the nearby Rourkela hospital with the help of some villagers.

“The accused is being treated at the hospital under tight security. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation into the incident is underway,” said a police official.
