Ghasipura Block Development Officer (BDO) in Keonjhar district stoked controversy on Wednesday by allegedly misbehaving with some villagers.

Some netizens of Ostapura village brought serious allegations against the BDO Asit Mohanty that the latter is threatening to lodge FIR against them in police station in response to their application for granting them houses under Awas Yojana.

According to reports, some elderly men and women and divyanga persons from the village had recently been to the block office to submit their applications and request their BDO to grant houses under Awas Yojanas.

However, Mohanty didn’t pay any attention towards their requests and allegedly threatened to lodge FIR against them if they visit the block office further.

“We are poor people and didn’t have proper houses. We had come to the block office with a hope that the BDO will consider our plea and help us. But the officer misbehaved with us and ordered us to leave the office soon,” said one of the complainants Bimala Das.

“He also threatened to lodge FIR against us in the police station if we visit the block office again. We are deeply hurt by this kind of rude behaviour of an administrative officer,” she said.

In reply to the alleged misbehaviour by the official, the villagers have lodged complaints in Ghasipura police station and Anandpur Sub-collector office.

However, Mohanty refuted the charges levelled against him by the villagers.

“I have not misbehaved with anybody. Some of them have been granted houses under different schemes earlier. I assured them of a fresh enquiry soon and requested them not to visit the block again till the further course of action,” he clarified.
